The analysis of prospects for shale gas production in different countries of the world, and the review of environmental safety study during the development of shale gas deposits in Ukraine and in the world have been carried out. Geological prerequisites and environmental hazards, prospects for production and ecological implications of shale gas development on the Oleska and Yuzivska areas fields been characterized.
Technological features, staging of development of shale gas deposits and the use of a hydraulic fracturing technology have been described, the impact of shale gas deposit development on the environment has been differentiated main factors of environmental hazard within the regions of Ukraine prospective for unconventional gas have been provided, the ways of risk minimization of groundwater pollution owing to shale gas production have been outlined. The estimation procedure for gas resources in the shale strata has been provided.
Target readers are geologists, ecologists, research workers, experts dealing with searches and prospecting of unconventional hydrocarbon deposits, and also students of geological and ecological specialties at the higher educational institutions, and a wide range of readers.
