The regularities of the development of earth’s surface collapses over underground cavities – mine workings and karst caves have been clarified. Examples of large collapses have been given, the physical mechanism of collapse formation has been revealed based on studies of vault equilibrium and core of fluidity. The mechanism of collapse formation over horizontal workings, continuous worked-out areas and during minerals extraction through wells has been described. Collapses in the areas of gypsum karst development have been characterized, collapses in the areas influenced by salt mines have been studied, methods of salt karst research and its forecast have been proposed. Practical recommendations for prevention of collapse formation have been given, in particular by hydraulic filling of underground cavities, ways of their reclamation have been clarified. The experience of monitoring studies in the collapse dangerous areas has been described.
For experts in the field of mining, karstology, construction, as well as for students of the respective universities.
